By the time fall rolls around, I’m ready for those cool crisp mornings.
What about you?
Now that’s it’s November and we’ve had our first hard freeze and the forecast for the week is ten degrees below normal, I’m already missing June. (My Canadian friends are shedding tears for me, I know).
College kids do get some things right. And one of them is the concept of a “Spring Break.”
After a long, hard winter, what could be more regenerating than a good dose of fun, adventure, and relaxation? You’ll be ready for some excitement. You know you will.
But why talk about spring break a full month before winter even officially sets in?
The answer comes in one word: anticipation.
It will help get you through the winter if you do this right.
Start planning now. Surf the travel websites over the coming weeks. Start your list of possible destinations.
Keep exploring the possibilities… As your plan comes together, you’ll build momentum.
It’ll give you that needed something to look forward to.
Don’t make any impulsive decisions. Avoid jumping on the first great sounding trip you find. The idea is to drag this out. Savor the process.
It still could be a long winter, remember that. You’re just trying to take your focus off of the short days and cold nights. You’re giving yourself a distraction.
If you’re not buying the anticipation part and don’t believe it will work for you, here are some of the best reasons I came up with to try it anyway—
- Now you can do things and go places you couldn’t afford when you were younger. Plan your trip to go someplace even better.
- Spring is a natural time of renewal. It will snap you out of hibernation mode.
- Seasonal depression is real. A change of environment, ideally a warmer environment, is excellent therapy.
- A spring vacation will give you a jump on using those vacation days that are so hard to use later in the year. You wouldn’t give a paycheck back to your employer, would you? Why give them your vacation days?
- Travel dollars stretch further when you avoid high season rates.
- It’s still too chilly, you say? Compare that to the heat and humidity that the same places have to offer in July and August.
- New experiences and new places will jump-start your brain after a few months of hunkering down.
Beaches and skiing are still great. The only challenge is to make sure you avoid is ending up in the same place at the same time, or soon after for that matter, as the college kids.
Daytona Beach in March is not an option.
There are so many other amazing choices. I just Googled “spring break for adults” and “grown-up spring break.” The possibilities are endless. I actually got stuck there clicking around for a while. See… It Works!
Do it! Start planning it. Enjoy the anticipation.
Reclaim a lost piece of your youth. Come back with a story… just like you did when you were in college.
Well, maybe not exactly like that…
You’ll still be glad you did.
