I love my tech toys as much as the next person. Maybe more. How about you?
But I went overboard back when I got my first iPhone. I went crazy over apps and all they could do. I’ll bet you did too, didn’t you?
It’s slowed down a bit, but you could get free apps everywhere. People would say, “Hey, you gotta get this new app. It’s so cool.”
Starbucks was even giving them away for free. Coffee, apps? Coffee, apps? Hmmm…
The standard camera app wasn’t good enough, so I got Camera+. Then I would get apps to do just about anything possible with my photos. Guess which camera app I’m using today? Guess which photo editor?
How many apps do you have on your phone?
C’mon, fess up!
I have 126. For me, they’ve accumulated like old caps. Always can use one more (I’m follicle-ly challenged). But, that leads me to another challenge… Reduce my app-count to an even 120. No one should go over 120. Right?
Maybe I could go for 100. That’s achievable, isn’t it?
How often do you see a couple these days on “date night,” but they both have their noses buried in their phones?
They don’t mean to be ignoring each other while not being present. They’re just busy connecting with people who aren’t there with them. Oh, and they probably have too many apps.
I’m mostly just poking fun… at myself, and those two over there. They’re obviously on a date. Don’t interrupt them. I think they’re in love… with their phones.
Here’s a serious quote on the subject:
“The seduction of technology results in the reduction of intimate personal time. The Internet, that is supposed to free us in space and time, now binds us in cyber space and stressful time.” – Debashis Chatterjee, Author
I think he’s saying the Internet is all well and good. (Well, maybe not ALL well and good). But, just lighten up a bit with the apps and don’t let it stress you out more than you were before there was an Internet.
Thank you, Al Gore!
