This post may have been inspired by the Arctic blast that settled in across most of the States this past week.
It’s been one to spend snuggled-in by a crackling warm fire… which I did not have.
You know, there’s another fire that we want to keep burning. It’s deep inside. It’s the one that drives you, it’s what keeps you going.
But what do you do when this fire is going out? When it’s burning those last few embers?
What to Do When Your Fire Flames Out?
Pour fuel on it?
That could be a bad idea.
Fan the flames?
Could work for a while, but
You may burn out even faster.
First, gather yourself.
Don’t panic.
Don’t run.
Let go.
Then…
Pause,
Step back,
Breathe,
Relax,
Heal.
Wander purposely,
Or wander aimlessly.
But wander.
Pay attention as you go.
Open your eyes,
Learn to see again.
Cross over,
Catch a glimpse from the other side.
Try something new,
Something you’ve never done before,
Or always wanted to do.
Experiment!
That way if it doesn’t go according to plan,
You don’t have to freak out.
Because experiments don’t always work.
If you’re stuck at the beginning…
Try the middle,
Try the end,
Try anywhere in between.
Linearity is a habit,
It can be limiting.
When the flames get going again,
They might burn really hot for a while.
Capture that feeling,
The energy.
Before the flame settles into a warm comfortable glow.
Then it’s steady as she goes.
Until the next time.
Fires do burn out…
As they will.
Then gather more wood.
Hope you enjoyed this somewhat different approach to a post this week. What do you think?
