Are we so busy we need a template to plan our weekends?
I read a post a while back that came with a free downloadable template for planning youir weekends. Seriously? We need a template for our weekends?
The post was written by Michael Hyatt, one of my favorite bloggers. I’ve been following him since 2005, back when he was one of the early pioneers of blogging. If you haven’t found him, his tagline sums it up… “win at work, succeed at life.” Michael is the go-to source for personal development, productivity, leadership and influence. Be sure to check him out.
Back to the weekend…
I fear we’ve lost the fine art of the weekend. And for what? Getting to wear the “crazy-busy” badge of honor?
For many, living for the weekend now means living for one more work day.
Since I’ve picked on one of my virtual mentors, I need to come clean. His message is in exactly the right place. He’s reminding us what weekends are really for…
- Not more work; sure, you’ve got some ‘round-the-house stuff to tend to.
- Not for sleep deprivation, work in a Sunday afternoon nap
- Not for an endless catch-up list, try something new.
- Call a friend. Go out for coffee, or a beer. If you can manage it, meet for dinner.
I ran out to grab lunch yesterday and forgot my glasses. Danger! Danger! I couldn’t read my phone. What would I do now? When I’m out along, I need my virtual security blanket (that would be my phone, of course).
Deep breath. Sigh. I tried just being there instead. It was uncomfortable at first. Then it wasn’t bad.
What does that have to do with weekends? Simple, you have to unplug to recharge. Take a break. Don’t worry, it doesn’t have to be long.
We’ll be talking more about the art of the weekend here at LifeUntucked.net Hope to see you back.
