What is it about Autumn?
Don’t you just love this time of year? Man, I sure do. I’m one who thinks Autumn begins on September 1st. If you want to get picky about it, you might get me to agree to the day after Labor Day. But that’s it—that is as far as I’ll go.
Why? Because fall is clearly the best time of year… it’s where the magic happens. Go ahead, Google it. Google the “best things about autumn” and you’ll get ten reasons here, eleven there, and on and on until you’ve exhausted 413 million hits. We know Google doesn’t lie (much).
Anticipation of something new and something familiar comes at the same time…
Autumn can be a time of rebirth and a refreshing, healthy change… of getting into a different rhythm, a different pace.
Cool, crisp mornings and warm, sunny afternoons. What could be better? I believe this particular change of seasons is the perfect time of year for fresh starts, rebirth, resets, and the like.
It’s simply a byproduct of the new school year.
The process begins midway through our formative years. Starting with kindergarten or first grade, we begin a new school year, rich with anticipation. Just like a new school year with a familiar routine in a familiar place.
Okay, okay… some of us may have cried the first time or two.
And that’s okay… it didn’t change a thing. For the next twenty-plus years, we’ve all repeated the same cycle. Autumn is the mark of an invigorating fresh start. It’s hard-wired into our psyche. We can continue to tap into it—if we let ourselves!
Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower”
— Albert Camu
Just think about it for a moment. Autumn comes with no real pressure like what comes with the New Year and all its goal setting, resolutions, and uber achievements. All the hustlers are chanting, C’mon, whattayagonnado to make this one the best year ever?
That’s massive pressure and unrealistic expectations packed into a few short weeks.
Now contrast that with the fall. We’re about two-thirds of the way through the year. Everyone else has long since forgotten about all the hoopla from January. Most people gave up months ago.
But you know what’s working for you and what’s not.
You know what to dial up and where to back off.
You can take in a deep, full breath of that invigorating crisp, fresh autumn air. While most everyone else has resigned themselves to another average year (you’re right, this one wasn’t so average. Still, you get the idea)...
You’ll have a refreshing restart.
For many of us, the dog days of summer have been cookin’ hot.
It’s comforting to know that the dog daze is coming to an end… maybe it’s time to think about taking some new classes. Metaphorically, or not. It’s a familiar place. And in its own way, it arrives at just the right time and not a day too soon.
Hang on… a change is near.
Have an invigorating Autumn.
Be untucked.

My favorite season too 🍁
I agree with the fresh start…almost as though there is a release to be free. The anticipation of the fullness of colors soon to be displayed—as if nature is telling us all to be bold and beautiful. Our uniqueness adds beauty to the world around us🧡
