When the Storm Passes… Planning and Making Adjustments for After COVID-19
We’re making adjustments as we go, but most of us haven’t started planning for life after COVID-19. Planning may not feel right quite yet.
On a normal day, life can throw a lot at us. Most of us handle these ‘throws’ just fine.
Yet these are not normal times (understatement). We’re all facing serious disruption to normal as we knew it and it’s looking like we’re in for the long haul.
Are you finding a routine? Are you settling in?
At some point, it will be time to be thinking what’s on the other side of this crisis. Although, I feel like most of us are still adjusting our stride.
Those adjustments can be tough to make. Especially when they feel like they might be longer term. Then it becomes more challenging.
Today I read a gentle, smack-you-in-the-forehead post.
How gentle can a post that smacks you in the forehead actually be?
Well, let’s just say it made its point while expressing the right amount of love. Mike Lynch, a friend from all the way back in grade school, writes get your day going right thought-provokers on Facebook.
This morning, Mike opens with, “Get the lead out, sharpen the tip and make a plan.”
Of course, I see the value of a good plan, but…
I’m just not ready for this yet… I’m not the planning type. Besides, I’ve already had to scrap the one I had. Do you relate? Can we have a do-over?
As Mike does so well, he wakes you up… then he pats you gently on the shoulder in a Midwestern, get-er-done sort of way. He continues, “If you’re doing it properly make sure and grab plenty of erasers.” I like that kind of thinking.
“Such is life… it’s the way we handle the ‘aw sh_ts’ that will make or break our success. Remember, saying a prayer, leaning on good friends and offering of ourselves is not only contagious it lessens life’s burdens.”—Mike Lynch, friend
Make sure you grab plenty of erasers… sage advice!
When decisions are made for us, sometimes we find ourselves unsure of what to do next. We land between feeling just fine with it and outright objection. The choice wasn’t even ours.
Let life change you… because it will anyway.
This time the ‘change’ decision was made for us. It’s done… over… no going back. The only way out is through.
In his blog post “Fill in the Blanks,” Seth Godin says this is one of the easiest ways to work through a test is… “Find the blanks, fill them in.”
Sounds too easy, and it begs the question, Who made the blanks?
We get to write our own, any time we choose.”
—Seth
You’ll have to check out the post for the full effect, but you get the idea, don’t you?
Will we know when the storm is over?
This is one of my favorite quotes for challenging times…
And once the storm is over, you won’t remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won’t even be sure, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm, you won’t be the same person who walked in. That’s what this storm’s all about.”
—Haruki Murakami, Japanese writer
I only wish I had remembered about the erasers sooner.
Be well. Be untucked.
