We’re living in an amazing time. It’s exciting and overwhelming at the same time. It can be so exciting, overwhelming or even infuriating at times that we need a break, before we break. Today on Sirius satellite radio I heard the deejay say, “Can’t we all just stop for a moment?”
This is what we’re up against every day. My remedy is to craft a more livable approach to life. And that’s what I’m calling “LifeUntucked,” a more livable approach to living. It’s about simplifying life, taking a step back to focus on what’s most important in this hyper-connected world. It’s a view, a perspective, a mindset… a new “less crazy” way of life.
I’ve been fortunate to be a chronic optimist. Somewhere along the line I was blessed with the realization that I felt a lot better if I could always try to see the good over the bad. It’s just a better place to start. No, it doesn’t always work. But it sure beats being a defeatist grump.
So, for an Untucked Life, it all starts with the right mindset.
The list below of LifeUntucked Essentials is a work in progress. It’s embracing the new in the world while preserving what you’ve gained along the way.
- It’s finding and reconnecting with that lost part of you.
- It’s “connecting” and living in the moment.
- It’s pursuing those dreams that well-meaning people once discouraged you from doing.
- It’s throttling back, downsizing and simplifying so you can get more out of life; yes, more!
- And, it’s more about sharing your fortune than seeking your fortune.
Someone living “untucked” knows…
- You don’t need it all to have it all. Having it all isn’t really having it all.
- More stuff doesn’t lead to a more fulfilling life. People and life experiences are far more valuable than any material thing.
- The less you make things about the money, the better your choices will be.
- And that much of life is made up by your choices. And, you have many more choices than you may think.
- “There’s more to life than simply increasing its speed.” – Mahatma Ghandi
- You can keep up with what’s most important, meaningful and useful to you if you don’t try to keep up with everything.
- That you must make your life happen, rather than letting it happen to you.
The list is by no means complete. I think it’s a good start, though. I’d like to invite your suggestions. What does living an untucked life sound like to you? Leave a comment and let’s see where this goes!
