I was just thinking about everything that goes on this time of year—how do we even pull it off? Or is it more about letting the holidays happen?
And why will we do it all again next year?
We know it’s okay to take a break from all the go-go-go, more-more-more, now-now-now that happens all year long. We just have trouble taking the first step.
Just let me do this one last thing… then I’ll stop.”
—too many of us
You do know, it will all start up again soon enough, right?
What do you think about as you go into this final stretch of the holidays?
I hope your head isn’t stuck back in work mode, although it’s quite normal for it to take a while to get that switch moved to the “off” position.
For me, during the last couple of weeks, I usually switch into a reflective mode, thinking back on the year and the good things and blessings that have come my way.
Maybe I contemplate some things that didn’t go so well, too. It might be a way of making sense of it all.
I’m thinking it’s all part of the process of wrapping up another year.
For most of us, this seems like a natural thing to do between all the festivities and good cheer. Asking ourselves questions like… How have things gone? What were the best parts? What should I do differently next year?
In fact, I’m winding things down so I can take a break, chill a little, and hang out with Lanette. We’ll spend some time with our friends. Oh, and Brodie too! Can’t forget the faithful boy dog, he’ll be curled up on the sofa and loving life.
This is what I mean by letting the holidays happen.
By the way, in the spirit of what matters most, you probably won’t see a new post next week from LifeUntucked®… who knows, I might feel inspired, or I might just light a fire in the fireplace instead.
Always remember, you’ve got to unplug to recharge!
So, back to this final stretch of the year…
We all know someone, probably lots of someones, who are still hustling and hammering away so they can claim victory on a marginally more “successful” year. Whatever that is.
Something we learned by living through a pandemic is that life is precious, and time is short. And when we realize that, recognizing those special moments with the people in our lives that matter most becomes much easier.
Be sure to let them know how much they matter. That’s an important part, my friend.
Will you be cramming in a few more victories this year?
Or will choose to share more time and good cheer with those closest to you? Will you be letting the holidays happen?
I can’t say I’ve always looked at the holidays like this… although, my memories of holiday seasons gone by are more about the smaller things, special moments, catching up, and the like.
These things cannot be forced… we have to let them happen.
And when we let these moments happen, it can be the difference between a so-so year and a banner year—whatever that might mean for you.
Be untucked.
