It’s living the moments and noticing the world about us…
My good friend Tim Wilson, posted the photo above on Facebook with the caption,
One of the best parts of my day”
And I can understand why.
Here is the post that goes with that ‘steal your breath,’ peaceful image that just draws you in… and doesn’t let go,
Once a week I make the hour and a half drive to the office, half of which is through the farmland of northern Montgomery County to where White’s Ferry crosses the Potomac.
Even though we live on the edge of one of the biggest metro areas in the country, you’d never know it, at least from this part of the drive.”
Don’t miss the critical detail… he was on his commute! Trust me, the whole drive isn’t like this. Although not bad, it doesn’t begin that way. And, it certainly doesn’t end that way.
He still managed to notice and capture a moment.
I think it’s about where you begin, it’s about where you’ve set your mind when the moment comes along.
Sadly, I can easily imagine that so many of the commuters on that ferry have never noticed the world around them. The beauty of the river trailing behind was lost. This moment didn’t even happen for them that day.
Their heads are already at the office, in their work, stressing over the workday that has yet to begin. Or for many, with their noses stuck to their devices, it doesn’t matter much what’s happening around them.
My wife Lanette, and I were in Santa Fe, New Mexico this summer. We ducked into the historic Hotel St. Francis to escape an afternoon rain shower.
We visited the Gruet Winery tasting room while waiting for the rain to break. Thunder rumbling in the distance was a nice touch while enjoying one of the best kept secrets in the world of sparkling wine.
I had gone ahead, leaving through a side door, to have a few extra minutes at the Red River Mercantile across the street.
When Lanette leaves out the front, she’s greeted by a huge Kodachrome rainbow over the mountains.
She notices a woman sitting on the portal texting frantically, but totally focused on nothing but phone in hand.
Without hesitation, she’s out with, “You’ve gotta see this. It’s beautiful!”
Actually, looking up for a nanosecond… then, “Oh, my word, I can’t believe I almost missed it!”
After some continued self-scolding, she followed with multiple, big-hearted “Thank You’s.”
It’s all about noticing the beauty where you find it… and being there to see it among the noise and distraction.
Thanks for visiting LifeUntucked.net! We’ll be exploring this amazing, hyper-connected world and figuring out how to live bigger lives through smaller things and simpler ways.
I post on Wednesdays.
