Life is a lot more fun when you make adventure out of it.
Even on those days when it throws things at you that make it feel like you don’t have a say in the matter… adding a little spice can be a good thing.
Think about the excitement that builds before a big trip and channel that into your life at home. Bring that inner traveler along wherever you’re headed.
Find some adventure in your “everyday.”
Yes, even the coffee shop.
Hang with me here…
We are all travelers at heart. As much as we all have “lizard brains” that kick-in whenever a good case of fear is appropriate, I believe we also have an inner explorer that’s hard-wired into our DNA.
Think about it. When everyone was “moving west,” they had to have something deep inside to call upon. If they didn’t, they just might have decided that New England was just fine.
So just like travel, every typical day in life can be more than simply getting there.
Make it about discovery, pushing your boundaries, getting out of that safe zone.
Don’t ask me “Like what?” That’s completely up to you.
You see, it starts to work by trying things… little things, nudges, everyday things, fleeting moments when that little kid hiding deep in your heart coming out to play in grown-up land.
Adventure is not careless… it’s not about being unprepared. You may argue that it could be. I’m not recommending you act recklessly on some bold and hazardous journey just to spice things up a bit. After all, taking an uncalculated chance is just that… taking a chance that you have little or no control over the outcome.
It’s the spirit of adventure we’re after here. At least until we’ve acquired some pioneering skills to keep us out of harm’s way.
Start with an exciting or unusual experience. Something that you haven’t done in a very long time.
Or take the next natural step beyond where you usually call it a wrap.
Think I’m holding back too much? Hedging my bet?
I’m talking about stepping out of the comfort of your routines and stretching beyond that… then stretching beyond that. Rinse and repeat.
Here are a few simple inspirations that help make life an adventure:
- Always be curious
- Never stop learning
- Be willing to peek around a corner
- Feel the thrill of stepping into unfamiliar territory
- Lean into uncertainty
- Embrace the unknown
- Follow a new road, the smaller ones are usually less travelled
- Take a chance, talk to someone you don’t know, or
- Try something you never thought you’d try
These are everyday opportunities that anyone can choose to do.
Give it a try. Then share what you’re doing with others around you. Sharing stories, especially stories of your adventures, inspires people into action. This is how you break free from the grip of the ordinary.
“A great adventure doesn’t have to mean climbing the highest mountain or catching the biggest wave. Sometimes, there’s nothing better than just wandering into the wilderness, setting up camp, and cooking over an open fire.” – from inside the Camp is Home catalog (just a quote, no affiliate relationship)
You’re invited to check back and let us know how it’s going.
Sharing your stories helps strengthen the bond among us seasoned adventurers, it also inspires those of us who perhaps haven’t ventured out recently to gear up, get out and explore the uncharted, the unfamiliar, and the unknown. You know, our everyday world.
We are all travelers in our own right, regardless of how far we journey or for how long we’re gone. Or for what adventure we may seek.
Leave a comment below… Happy trails.
p.s. Risk of peril, danger, hazard or reckless abandon can be found on other sites. Chance, dare, fortune and luck should be Googled elsewhere, as should financial speculation. Those are ventures, not adventures.

Liam, I had to think about that one for a minute. Thanks, that really means a lot. Best, Jeff
