Like most of us these days, I was trying to do it all and have it all. Oh, and I was trying to “find myself” in the process.
I’ve spent at least the last ten years trying to break the logjams in my life. Some of which I have. (I’ll talk more about these in future posts). I had a “good” job and was doing reasonably well by most accounts.
But I wasn’t satisfied. I felt like there should be more.
I refused to accept that work was something that only a lucky few got to enjoy.
I think most of us will agree if we’re honest with ourselves, we’re trying to cram too much activity into too little space and too little time. But, at every turn, we’re encouraged to do just that. Life is getting more complicated when it should be getting easier. We’re all feeling the pain.
Funny thing about life… so many of the good things can also be the not so good things. Careers, money, opportunity, toys, information, vices, devices, this, that and the other. Navigating through this virtual minefield can be more than challenging at times.
Does any of this sound familiar?
• I stayed in that “good” job for “the money” because I could never figure out what else to do. I certainly didn’t want to “start over.” Again, for the money.
• Our employers continue to demand that we do more with less. It doesn’t matter there’s not much more to be had with any less.
• I’ve wanted to throttle back for a long time.
• As we’ve de-cluttered and lightened out load, so much magically got easier.
• Reclaiming a lost part… writing
• Living in the moment
• I’m going to start doing those things that the well meaning people in may life discouraged me from doing when I was younger
• One lesson learned at work… almost anything can be simplified and it should be.
• Day to day, I wasn’t having much fun
• It would take me two months to catch up from a four-day vacation
We have to develop our personal “radar” to guard against persistent outside “threats” against our time, treasure and sanity.
Buy this, get that, do this, eat that. You know the drill.
It is nice to be living in such an amazing world with so much at our fingertips.
So many barriers have been removed and opportunity is abounding!
All aspects of our life are impacted in one way or another. Work, family, relationships, health, spirituality… little remains untouched. These are serious things that maybe shouldn’t always be taken so seriously!
It comes down to honing the ability to make good choices for ourselves and those close to us.
What’s on your mind? I invite you to join the conversation. We’ll be exploring this hyper-connected world and figuring out how to live large through smaller things and simpler ways.
Let me know what you think. I hope you’ll like what you see and maybe come along for the ride… It’ll be fun!
