What are you letting in?
You know… into your head?
How much of that steady stream of what’s generously referred to as information, or even entertainment gets past your filters?
Filters?
Exactly.
Did you hear that there’s now a shortage of flat surfaces?
Flat what?
Yes, it’s crazy… advertisers are running out of flat surfaces on which to affix their relentless messages.
Oh, did somebody mention the 24-hour news cycles. The industry mantra used to be. “If it bleeds, it leads.” Which is pretty much still the case.
But now that the news is a profit center for the networks. It’s safe to say, “If it smells, it sells.”
Think about it for a moment…
The greedy bastards at the helm of Big Corpa have one goal with this endless flow of information… First, gain control of every waking moment of our senses.
Then, followed by gaining control of our resources.
Sounds like I’ve completely flipped-out, doesn’t it?
But rest assured… I have not.
The thing is… we must be constantly vigilant.
We must keep our awareness on high-alert at all times.
Think about it this way.
Create an image of all the noise we let into our heads through the various media sources. Got it?
Now picture that same image knocking on your front door.
Would you let them in? Doubtful. You’d most likely take a peek through your doorbell-cam, then double-bolt the door.
But for some reason, we go without the protective filters when it comes to the bombardment of media.
What? Protective filters?
Yep, if you don’t have them, by all means available start working on them. Build them. Develop them. Exercise them every single day. It’s all you’ve got.
Your only defense in a very noisy world.
Joshua Becker of BecomingMinimalist.com sums it up quite well in this quote…
Be mindful of the culture we’re swimming in.All around us, nearly every moment of the day, messages are battling for space in our minds. They are promoting products, messages, and world-views. Often times, the urgent voices will be far louder than the significant ones. Identify both the messages and their source. And make intentional decisions because of it.”
