Or, 10 Simple Ways to #beUntucked and Throttle Back in this Noisy, Mixed-up World
Have you ever written a story or an essay or a paper for a class, then struggle explaining it to someone else? You struggle even though you may have spent who knows how many hours working on it.
There is a reasonable explanation. Brain scientists tell us we use entirely different neural pathways depending on whether we think it, write it, or tell it. The “it” being our story, essay, or paper in this case. We could do the extra work to memorize it, but that is a whole other process.
So, when someone says, “Tell me about your blog, Jeff…”
I can remember the noisy, mixed-up world part, but this is where the trouble begins. I must admit that even after writing between forty and fifty posts a year for the past six years on LifeUntucked®, sometimes I still struggle to explain what it means to actually live an “untucked” life. So, I’m going to explore that for you in this post.
LifeUntucked® has always been a journey of sorts—a journey that you’re invited to join.
The home page lays it out like this…
LifeUntucked® may sound at first like shorts, tee shirts, and flip-flops. But it’s more of a metaphor for a better way of living. It’s about simplifying life, taking a step back to focus on what’s really important in this hyper-connected world. It’s a view, a perspective… a way of life. It’s about being comfortable in your own skin and living well. The ‘untucked’ life is a philosophy, a way of getting on in this Go Go Go, More More More, Now Now Now world of ours.”
That’s the vision that I laid out six years ago and I haven’t changed a word. That said, LifeUntucked® has evolved and grown on its own with each and every post. And that’s the beauty of it.
If you’ve been a reader for a while and thought, “Okay, this is kind of cool, but how do I even start to #beUntucked?” Well, today’s post is for you. You’ll find out how to start living your best life now (without all the noise, expectations, and busyness). And if you just discovered LifeUntucked®, you’ll get one of the best starters.
Let’s kick things off—
- Throttle back sometimes. We’re not wired for the constant hustle and grind of today’s world.
- Take a digital break occasionally and experience life in analog. Remember, you’ve got to unplug to recharge.
- Strive to keep the week out of your weekends. No explanation needed!
- Always remember, life is too serious to be taken so seriously… Have fun, joke around, and play every chance you get.
- Stop skipping the good parts! In this mixed-up world, you’ve got to be intentional about living your good life now.
- When the going gets tough, embrace what you’re going through. This one simple sentence contains possibly the best advice I’ve ever received. It’ll help you get to the other side.
- It’s a crazy mixed-up world, try not to add to the confusion. There’s an old saying that says you’re either part of the problem or part of the solution—and you get to choose.
- Give yourself and others a break. And don’t make things that don’t matter too much, matter too much.
- Learn to walk through open doors. This one is the most abstract. It’s about learning to see the possibilities that lie before us.
- And finally, Spread good vibes whenever and wherever you can. I happen to be wearing my “spread good vibes” tee shirt from Life is Good as I write this (purely coincidental, though). It never fails to invite a mention.
If you begin to practice the tips in this post, you’ll have begun the journey to living the untucked life. It’s a simple formula, really. Just pick one to start. Pick the one that resonates most or feels the most immediately achievable. And keep in mind… it’s a journey! (The fun kind.)
Welcome to the journey!
Be untucked, my friend.
