Five years ago, LifeUntucked® was unleashed into the interwebs and it’s been quite an amazing, awesome, and wonderful adventure!
Whether you found LifeUntucked® back then, or you’ve recently discovered our journey to #beUntucked, I am truly and sincerely glad you’re here. Thank you so much for stopping by…
It really means a lot considering you have over 31 million other choices. I strive to make this one of the most helpful and inspiring blogs in cyberspace.
To celebrate this milestone, I thought it might be interesting to look back before looking forward. What was LifeUntucked’s® mission five years ago and how has it changed?
So… What is LifeUntucked® exactly?
I get that question often, and I’m still discovering the answer every day.
At its heart, LifeUntucked® is about… living larger through smaller things and simpler ways. This idea came to me from my dad as I wrote a piece for his wake service about how he lived his life. Dad was simple and humble… and yet, a prince among men.
It was then I wrote,
“He knew how to live large through small things and simple ways.”
Dad surely has his thumbprint on LifeUntucked®
So, back to what is it? Well, it’s…
- Embracing all the ‘new’ in the world, the good new parts, of course. All while preserving what you’ve learned along the way—again… the good parts.
- Finding and reconnecting with that lost part of you. As we ping around like a human pinball, sometimes we lose the best of our life experiences. We want to rediscover and reclaim them.
- About “connecting” and living together, in the moment. Well… we say we do a lot of connecting these days, and maybe we do… it just doesn’t feel as real as it does in analog, does it? That’s because most things are better IRL!
- Pursuing those things that well-meaning people have discouraged you from doing. I’ve finally found my way back and I’m now pursuing those things! And I invite you to join me. That’s part of the idea here!
- Throttling back, downsizing, and simplifying so you can get more out of life; yes, more! If you’ve been around LifeUntucked® very long, you probably know that I embrace all things counter-intuitive and the not-so-obvious attributes that are hidden throughout the landscape. Here’s a really cool one and it’s central to the idea of LifeUntucked®… you can actually accomplish more when you slow down, take breaks, get some rest, go on vacations, hang-out with friends… it’s true.
- And, Finally, it’s more about sharing your fortune rather than seeking your fortune. If you just gotta get your share in this life, and I’m not sorry to say… you won’t be finding it here, my friend. The faster way, if you will, to being untucked is to give of yourself first.
Deep down inside, we don’t seek the meaning of life, but the experience of being alive.”
—Joseph Campbell, American writer
Here’s some of what you’ll find…
We’re living in an amazing time. So many barriers have been removed. It’s so much easier to do so many things. The internet has impacted this world in so many ways… good and bad… expected and unexpected.
I believe it’s safe to say one of the best results has been in diminishing the power and, in some cases, the outright elimination of the gatekeepers. You know them, they made up the old guard. They decided who could do what. And who was worthy to do that what.
You no longer need their permission and acceptance to be whatever you may become. Yes, we can and that’s so cool.
As they say, “That’s the good news, and that’s the bad news.”
What to expect…
- Topics will range from the abstract to the practical. Things like balance, doing life, “keeping up” with an ever-changing world, personal growth, adventure, and simplification… and whatever the hell inspires me at the moment.
- We’ll talk about work, responsibilities, and having fun. And we’ll figure out how that all plays well together.
- You know, if we make good choices and ignore most of the constant pounding noise thrown our way, we can thrive in this crazy, mixed-up world. We really can, my friend! You do have a say!
WARNING: Prolonged exposure to LifeUntucked® may result in serious attitude improvement!
Our journey is to reconnect with the ‘soul’ of living, to the life well-lived, in a less digital way. (But don’t worry, we’ll still be able to use apps!)
Together, let’s inspire imagination, capture moments, and create room in our lives.
Let’s regain control over our time, our work, and our choices!
Because getting by is a lousy way to spend our days.”
—Seth Godin, author, entrepreneur and most of all, a teacher
LifeUntucked® means getting beyond “business as usual,” getting beyond speed for speed’s sake, and getting beyond everyone else’s way of consuming this world.
Let’s look beyond the current definitions of a so-called ‘successful’ life.
Take some time along the way to capture the overlooked.
Dodge the constant bullets fired by the relentless sellers of stuff.
It’s not about all those things and the rest of what clogs up life… it’s about everything else. You know, the important things!
LifeUntucked® is simply about what matters most to you.
Thank you for visiting… I hope you’ve found something interesting and possibly inspiring. I look forward to seeing you again.
And I welcome you to my journey to be untucked, unplug occasionally, and find a simpler, quieter, better way.
If you like the sound of this… join me and let’s experience this adventure together!
Be untucked.
p.s. And be sure to share LifeUntucked® with your friends!

John Maneth says
After completing my cancer surgery and months of treatments, and spending every day for 9 months, at home with my beautiful wife, I decided I did not need to spend 22 days a month traveling with Allstate.
I really liked my career at Allstate, but my priorities had changed. I went back to work for three months, to get my ducks in a row. During that three months, I attended a seminar in Florida.
One of the motivational speakers was very captivating. He explained when you find that career you really like, and you are both moving in the same direction, your career may be a perfect fit. But if you, or your career circumstances change, sometimes you have to make a difficult decision.
His analogy was, if you are on a bus, going the wrong direction, and you decide to get off, you wait for the correct time.
The bus stops, the brakes go Pssshhh, the doors open, and you simply get off the bus !
So when my ducks were in a row, I gave my notice, and when I had to set my out of office message, it said: The bus has stopped, I’ve heard the brakes go Pssshhh, I watched the doors open, and I Got Off The Bus !!
